Q: Where’s a good location to meet for our portrait session?
A: My favorite place to shoot is somewhere that is special to you! Your home makes a great setting, your favorite park, ball field, favorite restaurant, downtown you name it! It’s nice to shoot somewhere that is comfortable to you and your family, especially if you have little ones!
I hear alot of “oh, my house is nothing special.” That’s not true! It’s your home, it’s where you live. We don’t need a perfectly manicured lawn to capture great portraits. Most of the best pictures I have of my kids I took right in my own garage….great light!
Q: Why do you sometimes cut the top of the head off in pictures?
A: My mom asked me this and I figured if she wondered then I’m sure others do too! It’s really just my approach to photography. It has alot to do with the rule of thirds and just cropping an image so you get the most impact…..here, I’ve put together an example for you! The first one is fine, a nice standard picture, but the second one….so much more impact and emotion, don’t you think?

Still not convinced? Let me know ahead of time what your expectations are. Personally, I still have to take full body shots of my children to send to my grandmother, she’s never going to like a photojournalistc approach, that’s just the way it is. The most important thing is capturing the images YOU like! So talk to me!
